Dear Traveller,
We’re expanding our programme
Note: this newsletter also contains important customer information for those travelling or planning to travel to China following coronavirus outbreak. Please see below for details.
Following the success of our tours to the Caucasus, we’re expanding our range of tour destinations to include some of the highlights of Turkey and Ukraine, as well as introducing a luxury tour combining Moscow and St Petersburg.
The fascinating city of Istanbul sits at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. On our six day tour of Turkey, you’ll have the chance to explore some of the city’s most captivating sites, such as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and the famous Grand Bazaar. This maritime city grew up where the Bosphorus meets the Marmara Sea, so it’s also a must to take a river cruise to see some of its imposing waterfront mansions.
The region of Cappadocia is a complete contrast to Istanbul, but just as rewarding. The breathtaking countryside is littered with rock pinnacles nicknamed fairy chimneys. Hike through valleys lined with apricot trees, detouring to view rock-hewn churches and entire cities built underground. If drifting serenely in the basket of a hot air balloon is on your bucket list, experience a ride here over a landscape sculpted by volcanic activity and centuries of erosion.
We’re also offering trips to Ukraine for the first time. Our tours focus on the very different but equally compelling cities of Kiev, Lviv and Odessa. The Ukrainian capital is full of ancient churches whose golden domes glitter in the sunshine and characterful streets affording plenty of opportunities for shopping. Visit a monastery known for its open coffins which contain the remains of mummified monks.
It’s also possible to arrange a day excursion to Chernobyl. The recent and highly acclaimed television dramatisation has brought this nuclear accident to the forefront of our minds once more. The abandoned settlement and plant you see today is a poignant reminder of those tragic events.
Lviv feels more like it belongs in Central Europe. Close to the border, its elegant mansions and thriving café culture have more in common with Vienna or Budapest than they do with Kiev. This western city was once part of the Habsburg Empire, which goes some way to explaining why feels less Soviet than other places in the country.
Odessa, on Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, is known for its Art Nouveau buildings, Soviet murals and harbour. Ride the funicular to the top of the Potemkin Steps, admire the Cathedral of the Assumption and shop at the lavishly decorated Pasazh mall. Odessa sits on top of a labyrinth of tunnels, some of which sheltered partisans during World War Two. The beach is also just a stone’s throw from your base in the city.
If you wish to visit Russia, we’ve expanded our range of tours to include a luxury tour which combines Moscow and St Petersburg. Featuring top hotels, first class train travel and a carefully curated sightseeing programme, if you wish to experience these two unmissable cities in style, this is the way to do it. Why not give us a call or drop us an email to find out more and discuss your requirements?
